Dear members of SITM,
While the preparations of the Genova congress (8-13 July, 2019) are still running, I would like to give you a short report from the IMC Leeds, first week of July, 2018.
The “drama” strand has now turned into the smallest strand at the IMC Leeds (six sessions, two of them organized by SITM, and three performances). However, the quality of the papers on theatrical topics was in general very high. This means that I could collect quite a few potential manuscripts for EMD.
Next year, we should try to make theatre studies more visible again. I attach a call for papers for the IMC Leeds 2019, orientated towards the special topic of the IMC Leeds next year: materiality. However, we should not only offer sessions going along with the special topic. Quite a few participants of IMC this year found it boring that everything dealt with “memory”, and indeed, the “special topic” at Leeds is not a “general topic”. Therefore, our member Gordon Kipling organizes another series of sessions at the IMC 2019 about “new voices in medieval theatre studies”. Please direct your proposals or questions dealing with “new voices” (new ideas, new approaches, young and never heard researchers, etc.) to: kipling@humnet.ucla.edu.
European Medieval Drama still has not recovered from its crisis, but it is on the best way to do so. The sale of printed journals still diminishes, but the sale of e-journals (or the combination of both) went up recently, when we came close to catching up the time schedule. Volume 21 (2017) is at press at the moment; Jelle is just about to finish volume 22 (2018) with papers form Durham, and I am about to collect papers from last year Leeds, this year Leeds, and the German Branch meeting at Wienhausen in spring this year. By the Genova congress, volume 23 (2019) should come out, so that the Genova papers will be published in the coming volumes 24 and 25.
All those of you who promised either Jelle or me to send him or me a manuscript, please feel hereby reminded to do so!
Best wishes!
