Newsletter February 2021 – Addenda
February 18, 2021
Dear members and colleagues,
Many thanks to all of you who replied to the newsletter I sent you last week. Here are some more SITM updates for you:
Medieval Studies at Leicester
As many of you expressed to be in favour of giving support to the Medieval Studies at Leicester University, please find attached the letter I propose to send to the President and Vice-Chancellor, to the Head of College of Social Science, Arts and Humanities and to the Head of the School of Arts. Please let me know by March 1, if you want your name to be added to the list of signatories.
In memoriam
When updating the SITM mailing list, after having sent you the newsletter last week, I noticed that we have to mourn the loss of three more of our dear colleagues.
Konrad Schoell (Universität Erfurt) passed away in July 2014. We first met at the SITM colloquium in Odense in 1998, and I remember him as a very kind and generous colleague. The last time we were in contact was in 2007, when he had planned to come to Lille and told me that unfortunately he was unable to attend the colloquium. For those of you who understand German, I invite you to read the obituary by Eva Erdmann on romanistik.de.
Those of you who regularly visit our SITM Facebook site, might have seen my post on December 9, 2015, sharing the sad news that Josep Lluís Sirera (Universitat de València) deceased the day before. Although he had not participated in our colloquia since 2004, we are strongly indebted to him for having co-organized both the biannual International Seminar on Medieval Drama and Music (1990-2002) and the 11th SITM Colloquium (2004) in Elx. An obituary by Joan Castaño was published in Spanish in the online journal “Información”.
Eckehard P. Simon left us in May 2020. I’m very grateful to him for having regularly shared with us his research at the SITM colloquia during the past decades and for having contributed to EMD both as an author and as a member of the advisory board. You will find his obituary on the website of the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures of Harvard University.
In July 2022, during our next General Assembly in Prague, we will keep a minute of silence in remembrance of Konrad Schoell, Josep Lluís Sirera, Victor I. Scherb, Eckehard P. Simon, Heinz Bergner and Peter Happé. May all of them rest in peace.
SITM on Facebook
As most of you might already know, SITM has a Facebook page that is visible for anybody with access to the internet. In addition, we have got a private SITM Facebook group, where only members can post and see what has been posted. If you want to be added to the group, you need a Facebook account and have to send a friendship invitation to one of the three administrators of the group: to Cora Dietl, to Eliška Poláčková or to me. We’ll then send you an invitation to join the group.
Best wishes,
Lenke Kovács
